Nick Barnes
Partner
Nick qualified in 1997 and joined the firm in 2000. Nick was made Partner in 2002 and specialises in both criminal law and children law cases involving social services.
Nick deals with a wide range of criminal offences and has represented private and publicly funded clients facing offences ranging from careless driving to murder and manslaughter. Nick is accredited by the Legal Services Commission and the Law Society as a Court Duty solicitor and to provide advice at the police station. Nick qualified as a Solicitor Advocate in 2002 and has enhanced, higher rights of audience which means that he can undertake the same role as a Barrister in criminal matters. Nick regularly represents clients appearing before the Magistrates Court, Crown Court and higher courts.
Nick along with his colleague Sandeep Kainth is one of only three criminal law practitioners in the City to be rated in the leading independent guide ‘The Legal 500’ which is the definitive clients guide to the UK legal profession.
The Cambridge News ‘Lawyers Guide’ in association with ‘The Legal 500’ (a guide neither funded or sponsored by the firm but based on reputation and recommendation) stated in 2009 that Nick “handles everything from traffic offences to serious fraud and murder cases, but is especially sought after for tax evasion and benefit fraud prosecutions”. Likewise the independent ‘Good Lawyer Guide’ recognised Nick as “outstanding” in 2010.
Nick has a particular interest and reputation in complex and serious matters investigated by both the police and social services and recently assisted the BBC’s ‘Panorama’ with a documentary on an important case in this area of work
When is not at work Nick enjoys trekking and mountain biking in far flung locations and spending time with his expanding family.
